Richard Fidler is having an interviews with Yassmin Abdel-Majied. She has worked as an engineer on oil rigs where she was the only Sudanese-born, Australian-raised, hijab-wearing, Muslim woman on deck. She's also driven and helped to design racing cars which was her childhood dream; and she enjoys boxing, football and philosophy.
Beside personal adventures, working with and for community are fundamental to Yassmin's mission. Aged 16 she founded Youth Without Borders, an organisation helping young people work for positive change in their communities. Yassmin's work and leadership have been recognized with many honors including: 2010 Young Queenslander of the Year, 2007 Young Australian Muslim of the Year; and in 2012, Young Leader of the Year in the Australian Financial Review.
